The Association of Friends and Merchants of the Plaza Reial has begun the celebrations of its 20th anniversary with the exhibition ‘Línea de fuga’ to transmit its cultural and social values to the local community.
In an act on Tuesday, the president of the association, Enric Gimeno, said that in 20 years many things have changed: “We have faced problems that would have been impossible to solve separately. We would like the people of Barcelona to have us in greater consideration “.
The secretary and spokesperson of the association, Cristina Sampere, has detailed that the entity was born in 1999 aims to promote the Plaza Reial from a cultural, civic and commercial point of view.
“It is a meeting point for all people, businesses and entities that live, work or develop their activity in the Plaza Reial, as well as a promoter of cultural agitation of the square and its surroundings,” said Sempere.
He also explained that the exhibition aims to show the “global vision” of the association and, at the same time, to be a declaration of intentions of its desire to create synergies and complicities with the cultural and social actors of the city.
‘Line of Fugue’ is an outdoor photographic exhibition, which will be in the plaza from March 5 to 25 in Plaza Reial, in an Oak Stories project, the Setba Foundation and the Association of Friends and Merchants of the Plaza Real with the support of the City Council.
The photographic project relates and contextualizes migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Barcelona, and does so by telling the story of 10 of these newcomers who live in the city.
The entity has recalled that it annually schedules more than 150 educational, cultural, musical, sports, gastronomic and children’s activities for all audiences in the square, and on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, has intensified its programming.
The director of Commerce of the Generalitat, Muntsa Vilalta, has ensured that the association is a benchmark in the city in the commercial, cultural and social, and the Councilor for Trade, Agustí Colom, has highlighted the trade as “social cohesive”.
