As for the tourist promotion of the city, Colau has declined to make use of headlines about the celebration of major events and has defended that Barcelona has a model and project: to be an innovative, sustainable city and the best place to live and work.
Barcelona, March 25, 2019.- This morning, Ada Colau said at the fifth Barcelona Breakfast with Trade, organized by Barcelona Comerç and Barcelona Oberta in collaboration with La Vanguardia, that trade plays a key economic role in the city and, moreover, fulfills a clear function of social cohesion. In this sense, it has announced the “dynamic neighborhoods” program, a proposal to revitalize empty premises in Barcelona. This new plan envisages buying and rehabilitating up to 150 premises in different parts of the city, to be used for commercial activity under an officially protected rental scheme. Its aim is to create a stock market of available premises, especially in neighborhoods where the presence of trade is less. & nbsp;

In relation to the opening of new businesses, the mayor of Barcelona in common has acknowledged “too much slowness of the Administration in the procedures of licenses of activities and has announced reinforcements in this field and simplification of procedures. Colau has also been in favor of the implementation of IDBs, which he understands as “a tool to enhance and improve the services offered by commercial axes.” in areas such as cleaning or security, tasks that compete directly with the Administration and that would involve parallel management. “ All businesses should enjoy basic cleaning and security services, regardless of financial capacity.” & nbsp;

In relation to mobility, Ada Colau has assured that in Barcelona, as in other cities, “we are facing a paradigm shift and this provokes debates, worries and controversies. The big underlying problem in our case is that there are more than 100,000 vehicles left in Barcelona. It’s a matter of health and mobility. ” Colau would not rule out a toll on the city, a measure, he said, that they are already studying. On the contrary, he said, “a tax levied on home delivery derived from e-commerce is not a solution. This type of distribution is a matter of pollution and also of occupation of public roads. It is necessary to strengthen the collection points and agree on synergies between e-commerce operators and the city’s commerce. ” The Mayor has invited traders and representatives of the commercial axes to a meeting with Amazon to find ways of collaboration. As for the superblocks, the mayoress described them as “a great success” and said they would continue to implement new ones. In the same way, Colau is committed to continuing to increase the number of kilometers of cycle lanes in the city, while reaffirming the viability of the tram connection on the Diagonal. “The first section would go from Glòries to Verdaguer and would also involve a redevelopment of this whole area.” Also, in terms of mobility, the Mayor has demanded the urgent fulfillment of the commitments related to investments in the suburban infrastructures: “Barcelona City Council, like others, has been alone in structural issues for many years and we all pay for that.” & nbsp;

Related to the city’s tourism promotion, Colau has defended a Barcelona as “an open city, which loves to be visited and where tourists are welcome. However, tourism needs to be integrated into the city and cannot be imposed on other activities. ” He also spoke in favor of an important transformation of “Tourism of Barcelona”, to face the new challenges facing the city today, it is necessary to reform the statutes, integrate more actors and create new strategies that promote sustainable tourism that contributes to the prestige of the city ”. In this context, Colau rejects any propaganda announcement of a great event for Barcelona, as he said, “the city already has its own project and there is no need to resort to past formulas. I do not rule out that in the future Barcelona may repeat some Olympic Games, we already have the infrastructures, but there is no need to force any project ”. Barcelona has insisted, “it is a pleasant city to live in and this is its great strength to attract investment, tourism, talent. Barcelona wants to be a sustainable, friendly, livable and competitive city and that is why what we need is social cohesion to face all the challengesthat we have in front of us ”.

In terms of security, Colau has defended an orderly and progressive increase in the bodies of the Guàrdia Urbana: during his term they have expanded with 600 agents. The mayoress of Barcelona has been very critical of the Generalitat and the State Government, whom she has blamed for leaving them alone in solving problems such as the Top Manta. Colau called for more Mossos d’Esquadra staff, more efficiency in the powers of the Generalitat and recalled that to end this type of illegal sale, the underlying social problem must be addressed with all the consequences. & nbsp;
